PresidentShietel Chhana, Psy.D., NCSP is a Licensed Educational Psychologist who has been a practicing school psychologist for the last 13 years working with students in public, nonpublic and residential schools. She additionally is a Licensed Educational Psychologist and a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. She has completed a Post Graduate School Neuropsychology program and is a Diplomate in School Neuropsychology. Her previous work experiences include working in group homes, residential treatment centers, county mental health programs, and psychiatric hospitals. Her professional interests include school neuropsychology, school mental health, student trauma, and professional development for all educators. |
President-Elect Brooke Maston, MA, NCSP is a Licensed Educational Psychologist born and raised in Sutter County. She graduated from California State University, Chico in 2017 and has been a practicing school psychologist for 9 years. Brooke has worked in public schools, public charter schools, alternative education programs, and adult education. She is passionate about working with the extensive-support needs population and underserved populations. Brooke's professional interests include evidence-based assessment and intervention, strengthening family and school relationships, and trauma-informed practices. She previously served as a committee member for CASP. Brooke was the founding President of NECASP and has since served as Past President and Treasurer. |
Past PresidentStephanie Hewitt, Ed.S., NCSP, LEP, ABSNP, is a school psychologist, Licensed Educational Psychologist, and the owner of Learning Pathways Educational Psychology PC. Through her practice, she provides private diagnostic evaluations for children and adolescents, as well as contract psychoeducational evaluations for local school districts and charter schools. In addition, Stephanie teaches in the school psychology graduate program at California State University, Sacramento. Within NECASP, Stephanie has served as President Elect (2021–2023), President (2023–2025), and currently Past President. Her professional interests include neurodiversity-affirming practices, assessment in all its forms, and supporting students with dyslexia. Outside of her professional roles, Stephanie is a mom to two boys and three golden retrievers. She enjoys paddleboarding and reading in her free time. |
| Secretary Leigh Amistadi-Gomez, M.A., Ed.S. is a credentialed school psychologist who has been practicing for 15 years in various school districts and non public agencies across California, with students preschool age through adult transition. Leigh is currently the school psychologist on the preschool evaluation team, and shares the responsibility of Infant Transition Coordinator in Loomis Union School District. Leigh’s professional interests include neuropsychology, early intervention, and multi-tiered systems of support; as well as working closely with school based mental health specialists, supporting new psychologists and students during their internship.
Leigh is a mother of two children and can often be found watching them participate in activities: baseball games, swim meets, golf matches, and band concerts. Pilates, paddle boarding, music, gardening, and reading are personal interests. |

Membership & Hospitality ChairMichele Custer, Ed.S., NCSP is a Licensed Educational Psychologist who has been practicing school psychology for 16 years. Hailing from the east coast, she has worked in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Indiana and California. Michele has worked in private schools, public schools, public-charter schools, alternative schools, and partial-day hospitalization settings. Her professional interests include ethically sound practices, social-emotional learning, multidisciplinary teaming/ collaboration to support high-risk students, and legislative advocacy. She is currently the co-chair of CASP’s Membership Committee and she is adjunct faculty at Sac State, where she helps in the training of school psychology graduate students. |
Student RepresentativeMarisa Herrera is a second-year school psychology graduate student born and raised in the Sacramento area. She currently attends the University of Massachusetts Global. She is a practicum student at Sacramento City Unified School District. Marisa’s professional interests include neuropsychology, social-emotional learning, and early intervention. In her free time, she enjoys reading, discovering new music, and going on hikes. |
Website Support & Preschool Specialist Natalie Cyhanenko, M.A. (CSU Sacramento) is a Credentialed School Psychologist who has been practicing for 12 years in California (Oakland, Nevada County Superintendent of Schools, and currently Pleasant Ridge School District). Prior to becoming a school psychologist, Natalie was a mild-moderate SDC teacher in School District of Philadelphia. Natalie has practiced at the elementary and middle school levels, and in recent years has transitioned to working primarily with preschool, alternative education, and Non-Public School students. Autism acceptance and assessment, multi-agency collaboration to support at-risk youth, supporting self-compassion and self-care in educators, and working with pre-referral intervention teams are her leading professional interests. Sources of professional inspiration include: the work of Ross Greene (creator of the Creative and Proactive Solutions model) and Marilyn Monteiro (sensory- and interview-based approach to assessment of Autism), supporting interns and newer psychs, collaborating with NECASP on pressing issues facing NE California schools, and perusing the art and writing on Neuroclastic.com. |
